different

at play, originally uploaded by eurekang.

friends often ask me how nori is different than aly. now that nori's personality is begining to emerge and evolve, i think i can make some distinctions that are more descriptive that might foreshadow the kind of individuals they will become, Lord willing.

1 - we thought aly was loud. nori is much louder. her cries and shrieks are so piercing they make my ears ring.
2 - aly ate anything we gave her. i rarely dressed her with a bib during mealtimes. i never felt compelled to buy those vinyl, oversized, reusable smocks sold at baby stores. it was for babies like aly avent decided to create bottles larger than 8 oz. nori, on the other hand, requires not merely a bib for herself, but also for the person spoon feeding her.
3 - when presented with a new toy, aly would stare and examine the toy closely before touching it. nori just puts a death grip on anything new presented to her. if she has reason to believe you are trying to confiscate the object (even if you're just reaching over to wipe part of her last meal off her hand) she scream in horror until you retreat either in sheer fear or alarm.
4 - aly always needed to be held or rocked to sleep. nori just needs a nice plush stuffed doll to nibble on while she groans and screams and flips around in her crib for a few minutes. even if i try and hold her to sleep, she still performs wrestling moves to find a comfortable position.
5 - aly slept through the night before she was three months. nori still wakes up at 3am and 6am. yawn.
6 - aly was a much more difficult to please and entertain. for some reason, it always seems easier to get a smile or giggle from nori than it was for aly at nori's age.

to be continued... nori wakes again. she's early today - it's only 1:30am.
